Marea: Marea, aged 47, was diagnosed with asthma in her mid to late 20s, although she believes she had attacks as a child. She was married but now separated and lives alone. She is self-employed and works part time. She had a wake up moment where the doctor said she would need her lungs for another 40 years and so she now is better educated and less complacent about her asthma. She has participated in a few asthma trials. Like many others, she would prefer not to take medications, but realises she has to if she wants to breathe.
