John G: John, aged 67, was diagnosed with asthma around the age of five. He was in the air force, then a case worker, and is now retired. He lives with his wife and has three adult children. He recalls being given various useless medicines as a young child, and also barbiturates, which dulled his childhood memories. He feels his asthma has got worse over the years. He has trouble understanding why anyone with asthma would smoke. His mother was ahead of her time restricting certain foods and making him do breathing exercises.
